B. COBY KING
Coby King is the president and chief executive officer of High Point Strategies, LLC, one of Southern California’s leading public affairs firms. King specializes in strategic and crisis communications and governmental advocacy. An attorney, King’s direct advocacy specialties include the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, LA County Metro, and the Los Angeles Unified School District. He maintains strong contacts throughout Southern California and in Sacramento.
King’s clients include the Los Angeles Community College District’s $6 billion building program, Kinkisharyo International, Inc., American Reclamation, MP Aero, and the City of El Segundo. He has represented dozens of clients over his long career in law and public affairs.
Actively involved in the political arena, King serves as the Chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, one of the region’s most influential business advocacy organizations, and previously chaired VICA’s Transportation Committee for many years. He was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2013 to serve on the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
King also serves as a member of the board of the California Consumer Motor Vehicle Recovery Corporation, appointed by California Senate president pro tem Darrell Steinberg, and on various Democratic Party committees, including the State Central Committee since 1997, the State Executive Board, and as longtime co-chair of the Party’s Rules Committee. He currently serves as the Party’s Parliamentarian. An avid hiker and outdoorsman, he also helps manage two Sierra Club Angeles Chapter outings organizations.
From 2003 to 2008 he served on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s San Fernando Valley Service Sector Governance Council, representing the City of Los Angeles. Previously, he served as President of the Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council from 1999 to 2006, and was instrumental in achieving a long-delayed airport master plan. He also served as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency from 2000 to 2002, and on the California Council on Criminal Justice from 2002 through 2004, having been appointed by former Speaker Robert Hertzberg. He has also served on the board of the Western Center on Law and Poverty and other non-profits.
King earned a B.A. in political science with honors from UCLA in 1985, and a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 1991. He resides in West Hills with his family.
